HUNTSVILLE, Texas – For what is undoubtedly the biggest road weekend of the season for Northwestern State soccer, the Lady Demons will hit the road to face Sam Houston State at 7 on Friday before visiting Stephen F. Austin at 1 on Sunday in a crucial Southland Conference road swing.

The Lady Demons (7-5, 1-1 SLC) are coming off of a 2-0 win against Nicholls following a 3-1 loss to Southeastern Louisiana while Sam Houston (4-8-1, 0-2 SLC) is coming off of back-to-back losses to Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.

“Sam Houston is very organized and has a good pace up top,” said head coach Jimmy Mitchell. “It will be a battle with both teams looking to improve in the conference standings.”

Northwestern State is currently fourth in the league standings behind SLU, Stephen F. Austin, and Lamar, while Sam Houston is tied with Nicholls for last in the 10-team league.

NSU leads the all-time series against the Bearkats 10-1 including a three game win streak that has the Lady Demons outscoring Sam Houston 7-1.

“They have a tremendous home field advantage with what is truly the toughest place to play in the Southland Conference,” said Mitchell. “We will look to capitalize on our depth and pace to hopefully get the win.”

Jessica Danku has been huge for the Lady Demons between the posts leading the conference in saves with 59. The next closest is Dacia Webb from Texas-San Antonio with 44.

Danku has a record of 6-5 record and three shutouts.

The Lady Demons will visit SFA on Sunday and will be looking to snap a 10-match winless streak against the Ladyjacks.  NSU's last win over SFA came by way of a 4-0 victory on Sept. 27, 2002 - a SLC tournament championship season for the Lady Demons.  The two teams also tied in 2002 and again in 2008.
