NATCHITOCHES – After a gut-wrenching loss to Southeastern Louisiana at home Friday night, Northwestern State will conclude its home stand Sunday at 2 o'clock against a team the Lady Demons have never lost in Nicholls.
Northwestern State (6-5, 0-1 SLC) holds a 19-0-1 all time record against the Colonels (6-4-1, 0-1 SLC). Nicholls snapped a five game win streak in a loss toCentral Arkansas 2-1 Friday night in Conway, Arkansas.
“We have to learn from the mistakes from SLU, and then put that game behind us,” said Mitchell. “We need to be able to focus on Nicholls Sunday.”
Three of the past five games between the two schools have been decided by five or more goals, but last year in Thibodaux was an exception when the Lady Demons only won by a single goal.
Yanci Johnson scored the lone goal Friday night on a pass from Hailey Altenburg. The goal gave Johnson her fourth goal of the year and pushed point total to 10.
Point leader Meghan Hunter was held silent Friday, but had a chance at a goal when it banged of the right post.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Danku gave up a season high three goals, but added seven saves to push her conference leading saves total to 55 on the season.
Sunday's game is “Bring Your Dog to the Park Day”, and all dogs must be on a leash.
Northwestern State will start a two game road trip next week against Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin.
