Maria Lora arrives at Northwestern State after a successful three-year career at Texas State, where she established herself as both a reliable competitor on court and a standout in the classroom.

A native of Cali, Colombia, Lora compiled a 7-5 singles record and tied for the team lead in doubles victories (11) during the 2023-24 season. She competed primarily on courts five and six in singles and formed one of the Bobcats’ most productive doubles tandems alongside Sofia Fortuno.

Lora made an immediate impact at Texas State, posting seven singles victories as a freshman in 2021-22, including back-to-back wins against Stephen F. Austin and Jackson State. She helped the Bobcats advance to the Sun Belt Conference quarterfinals in her first league tournament appearance and capped her debut season with a singles win on court five.

Over the next two seasons, she added depth to the lineup, highlighted by a 6-2 doubles record in 2022-23 and tournament wins at the ASU Slam Fest and TXST Fall Invite.

Off the court, Lora has earned numerous academic honors, including the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Team, ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, and multiple Sun Belt Commissioner’s List and Dean’s List awards.

The daughter of Mónica Meza Audor and Felipe Ricardo Lora Escobar, Lora was a COSAT G2 champion in both singles and doubles as a junior and reached as high as No. 6 in Colombia’s 18U national rankings, while also holding the No. 1 spot in Valle.

She is pursuing a masters degree in sports administration.
