Smith makes the transition from player to coach in 2027 after completing a standout season in a Demon uniform in 2026.
A Southland Conference All-Defensive Team selection in center field, Smith became just the third Northwestern State player in the past 25 seasons to record at least 40 runs, 40 hits, 25 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in a season, joining Cayla Jones (2019) and Nicole Martin (2002, 2005) on the short list.
In her lone season as a Demon, Smith broke the single-season record for being hit by a pittch, drawing 22 free bases the hard way. that along with her keen eye for the strike zone, striking out just six time in nearly 150 at-bats during the season, helped her produce a .476 on-base percentage, the third highest single-season mark in program history.
Her final collegiate season was the latest chapter in a decorated career that included stops at UT Tyler, Grayson Junior College and Northwestern State.
Before coming to Natchitoches, Smith helped UT Tyler win two NCAA Division II national championships and earned unanimous NFCA All-America honors in 2025. She collected six total All-American honors during her collegiate career between UT Tyler and Grayson.
In 2025, Smith set the NCAA record across all division for runs scored in a single season with 107 and at the time became just the second player to ever tally more than 100 runs scored in a season.
She led the nation that year in runs (107), HBP (30), on-base percentage (.595), total bases (184) and triples (12). She finished second in the country in hits (98) and slugging percentage (.915) and had the third highest batting average (.488) in the country.
Smith finished her NCAA career with a .398 batting average and a 1.255 OPS, collecting more than 280 hits and scoring more than 300 runs. She drove in more than 175 runs, recorded 118 extra-base hits and stole 99 bases.
