Coming off one of the most successful careers in Northwestern State men’s throwing history, Djimon Gumbs is back in his third season coaching for his alma mater.
Gumbs works closely with head coach and throws coach Mike Heimerman.
During his Demons career, he holds three school records—indoor men’s shot put and outdoor men’s shot put and discus.
In addition to his records, he made the NCAA Championships in three events, one indoor and two outdoor.
Gumbs made the outdoor NCAAs in both the outdoor shot put and discus his first season in Natchitoches, placing in the top 23 in both events. He made his other goal come true of reaching indoor nationals in 2024, becoming a Second Team All-American in the shot put after finishing 13th.
He reached the outdoor regionals in all three years, as well as All-Louisiana.
Gumbs won seven gold medals, including the outdoor shot put all three seasons and his indoor shot put his last two seasons with NSU.
In addition to his plethora of gold medals, he also took home a pair of silvers and a bronze during his Northwestern State outdoor championship career.
