Avrie Bassingthwaite

Avrie Bassingthwaite is in her first season as an athletic trainer at Northwestern State after being hired in July 2024. She works primarily with the women’s basketball team.

She comes to Natchitoches from Florida Atlantic, where she worked with spring football and women’s tennis.

While with FAU, she designed and implemented circuit training for athletes who could not fully participate in practice due to injury or a medical condition as well as assisted with emergency situations and managing athletes with medical conditions.

Prior to her time in Boca Raton, she worked with the University of Connecticut, where she performed injury evaluations, treatments and modalities, taping and concussion protocols.

Bassingthwaite also worked as an intern with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. With the WNBA power, she was the game day away team liaison, assisting the away ATC for the duration of home games. She also assisted the home team ATC in pregame taping and treatments.

For five seasons, she was the medical coordinator for the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Professional Football League, running the entire medical department.

While with the Pirates, she assisted athletic trainers in injury prevention, pain management, athlete maintenance and rehabilitation in various settings including games, practices and community events, as well as national travel for games and training.

Bassingthwaite graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2019 from Becker College and her master’s in 2024 from UConn in athletic training.
