A native of Minden, Jan Nichols is in her first year as graduate assistant basketball and volleyball coach of the Lady Demons.
The 25-year-old Nichols obtained her bachelors' degree from Northwestern in 1973 in general studies with emphasis on psychology and sociology. She is currently working on her masters' degree in rehabilitation counseling.
During her undergraduate days, Nichols was a standout on Northwestern's girls basketball and volleyball teams for two years before the two programs were recognized as official varsity sports. She also was a member of the swimming team during her stint at Minden.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Nichols of Minden, NSU's graduate assistant coach works with athletic trainer Eugene Christmas in the off-season and plans to pursue a career in that field.
