Chad Leath, former Northwestern State hurdler and sprinter for the Demon track and field team, returns to NSU as an assistant coach for those same events.

Leath earned his bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science in 2008 and went on to pursue a job in strength and conditioning with the University of Texas in Austin where he worked with the volleyball, tennis and football programs, particularly in the areas of Olympic lifting and speed development.

“It’s great to be back at NSU. While away I would always check the athletics website to follow the track program,” said Leath. “When you have put your own sweat and effort into a program as an athlete, you really see it in a different light and truly want that program to be successful.”

Leath then left Texas to go out on his own and create BEAST Performance, which stood for Biomechanical, Endurance and Strength Training. BEAST specialized in developing a well-balanced body that could not only perform at the highest level, but also withstand the demands of the individual’s sport. The company started with one athlete and later grew to 80+ clients per month. BEAST was able to work with numerous professional and Division I athletes, helping them reach their scholarship or professional dreams.

Leath married Megan Dockery ’09, a former NSU volleyball standout, and they have welcomed two beautiful daughters, ages two and four.
