After spending the past three seasons as a player and an assistant coach at Lyon College, Stephon Martinez is in his first season as a graduate manager at Northwestern State.

Martinez played his final two seasons at Lyon (2012-14) before spending the 2014-15 as an assistant coach with the Scots.

As a player, Martinez ranked nationally in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 49 percent of his shots from long range, and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Prior to playing at Lyon, Martinez spent two seasons at Illinois Central College, contributing to a team that earned a top-10 national ranking and finished 21-9.

Upon completion of his playing career, Martinez joined the Lyon College staff as an assistant coach and was involved in preseason workouts, practices, recruiting, player development and handling team travel arrangements.

Martinez earned his business administration degree from Lyon in 2014 and currently is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration.

Martinez is the founder and owner of DigDeep Basketball, a skill-development company he began in 2014. DigDeep offers targeted skill development at all levels from youth to professional.

Martinez has worked with numerous collegiate players as well as NBA players Julian Wright (New Orleans) and Anthony Tolliver (Detroit).

Martinez was a two-sport athlete at North St. Francis County (Mo.) High School, playing basketball and soccer.

Martinez is the son of Stacy and Ray Collier and has one brother, Parker.
