With a diverse background blending very successful runs as a high school coach with collegiate experience and involvement with European amateur and professional basketball, Nathan Moyle brings fresh energy, perspective and expertise to the Northwestern State Demon basketball family.
Moyle, a Michigan State graduate, has worked at all levels of the game. He has also been a professional golfer, a golf instructor and a successful chemical sales representative.
His passion is coaching basketball and developing well-rounded student-athletes, which drew him to Mike McConathy’s Northwestern State program. His approach fits the Demons’ “Championship Basketball With a Purpose” philosophy during McConathy’s 18 seasons at NSU.
Currently, three players whom Moyle helped develop are playing professionally. He has helped influence dozens of college players.
Moyle was a standout player himself in high school, earning all-city and all-area honors, all-conference recognition. He averaged 18.5 points per game as a high school senior and won the 1997 Junior National Three-Point Competition, making 68 of 75 from behind the arc to prevail. He was a two-time ELKS Hoop Shoot state finalist.
Moyle also played football and baseball in high school, winning all-area honors on the diamond.
He played basketball at Hillsdale College at the Division II level, and shot over 50 percent from the field and 3-point range for his playing career while hitting better than 80 percent of his free throws and owning a better than 2-to-1 assist to turnover rate.
After two seasons as an assistant coach, Moyle took over as head coach at Howell (Mich.) High and guided his program to its best season in 16 years. Most recently, he was associate head coach at North Caddo High School in Vivian, and in the 2015-16 season he helped the team reach the state semifinals, the most recent of four different high school state Final Four appearances he has been involved with as a coach.
In 2014-15, he was an assistant coach at Olivet College back in his home state.
Moyle also played golf on the professional mini-tour and was an instructor at the prestigious Chuck Winstead Golf Academy in Baton Rouge.
He has worked on the staff of dozens of camps across the country, and has been a consultant to major college basketball programs and European amateur and professional teams.
A native of Lansing, Mich., Moyle is a 2004 graduate of Michigan State in communications.
