Former high school basketball coach Major Deacon is in his first season as a graduate manager with the Northwestern State men’s basketball program.
Deacon spent the past three seasons as a head coach at Baker High School in Mobile, Alabama. In the past two seasons, Deacon led his alma mater’s boys basketball team to a combined 40-23 record, back-to-back area championships and consecutive regional playoff appearances.
A year before taking over the Baker boys team, Deacon was the girls coach at Baker. Deacon turned the Hornets from a 3-21 team into a regional playoff participant.
Deacon played two seasons at the University of Mobile, helping the Rams finish 17th nationally before completing his undergraduate degree in secondary education at the University of South Alabama.
Decaon began his coaching career while in college, spending one season as the head coach of the UMS-Wright Middle School boys basketball team. From 2011-14, he was the head coach of the UMS-Wright junior varsity team before taking over the Baker High girls team.
A 2011 graduate of South Alabama, Deacon is pursuing a master’s degree in sport administration at Northwestern State.
