Jason Kern

Jason Kern joined the Northwestern State basketball staff in 2013-14 after serving as a manager at Northern Iowa for the last five years, during a time UNI surged on the national stage with a fantastic run in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

During his time at the University of Northern Iowa, he was involved with two Missouri Valley Conference Championships coming in 2008 and 2009.  UNI’s Panthers reached back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.

In 2009, the Panthers were a No. 9 seed.  Their dramatic tournament run was highlighted when they knocked off the No. 1 overall seed, Kansas, to advance to the Sweet 16.

Kern is a native of Kalona, Iowa, and he attended Mid-Prairie High School.  While in high school, he was a three-sport athlete.  In Kern’s senior year, he earned all-state honors in baseball, all-district honors in football, and he was also a key component on the Class 2A state runner-up basketball team.

The UNI graduate is enrolled in the Master of Science program here at Northwestern State, pursuing a degree in Health and Human Performance.

Jason is the son of Chris and Ruby Kern.  He has one brother, Travis.
