Matt Powledge

Matt Powledge begins his first season with Northwestern State after two years working with Allen Rudolph when the latter was offensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana. Powledge spent 2010-11 with the Lions serving as a graduate assistant on coach Mike Lucas’ staff. After working as an assistant OL coach with Rudolph in 2010, last year Powledge worked with the Lions’ tight ends alongside Rudolph’s offensive line. The Lions were among the Southland’s most versatile and explosive offensive units last season, ranking third in total offense (401.8 yards per game) overall with the third-best single-season average in SLU history.
                 
Playing Experience: Powledge lettered four years for Sam Houston State where he earned All-Southland Conference honors as a fullback in 2008 while also being named to the 2009 Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll. He was the 2009 team captain for coach Todd Whitten, who now is offensive coordinator at Lamar.  At Huntsville High School for coach Mitchell Coey, Powledge was an all-district running back and linebacker, and the Red Zone Player of the Year for the area.
 
Personal: Powledge was born in Huntsville, Texas, on March 31, 1967. His mother is Evelyn Hasouris-Turner. His father, Kirby Powledge, is deceased. His stepfather is Rodney Turner. He has three sisters:  Keri Powledge (40), Alexis Turner (18) and Demi Turner (17). Powledge received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from SHSU in 2009 and a master’s degree in sports management from Southeastern Louisiana in December 2011. He enjoys hanging out with his family, playing basketball and softball.
