Kevon Beckwith returned to Louisiana in June, joining the Northwestern State staff as its defensive line coach.
Most recently, Beckwith has been selected to participate in the NFL Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship working under the Cleveland Browns organization during the 2021 offseason.
Beckwith spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons at Austin Peay, serving as the assistant defensive line coach with the Governors in 2019 and as the defensive line Coach in 2020.Â
In his first season at Austin Peay, he helped the Govs reach the FCS quarterfinals for the first time in school history, win the Ohio Valley Conference for the first time since 1977 and produced a top-five nationally ranked rushing defense in 2019.Â
Beckwith also helped defensive tackle Joe Smith earn first-team All-American status in 2019.
Prior to his time at Austin Peay, during which the Govs won 15 games, Beckwith spent five seasons as at UL Lafayette. Beckwith spent the 2018 season as a quality control for Billy Napier’s staff, helping the program win the Sun Belt Western Division title.
While with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Beckwith helped turn the program’s defensive line into a force that routinely produced All-Sun Belt Conference selections and NFL prospects.
As a student assistant from 2014-16, Beckwith worked with three players who earned All-Sun Belt honors.Â
In 2014, both Justin Hamilton and Christian Ringo were first-team all-conference picks after combining for 75 tackles (29.5 for loss) and 16 sacks. Ringo’s 20 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks both paced the conference.Â
Ringo also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors on the All-Louisiana College Football team in 2014.Â
An all-district player at Archbishop Shaw in Marrero whose career was cut short by a spinal injury, Beckwith helped lead the Ragin’ Cajun program to a New Orleans Bowl victory over
Nevada in 2014.
As a graduate assistant at UL Lafayette, Beckwith produced another All-Sun Belt selection in Zi’Yon Hill, who earned third-team honors after producing 44 tackles in his redshirt freshman season.
Beckwith is a two-time UL Lafayette graduate, earning his bachelor of applied science degree in health/health care administration/management in 2015 before completing his master’s degree in 2017.
Beckwith is married to his wife, Megan, who like Kevon also is a New Orleans native.Â
