In his first season as an administrative graduate assistant, Darrin Peterson Jr. brings a wide range of professional experience to the Northwestern State coaching staff.

Peterson comes to NSU after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Daytona Elite Junior College. He will work with the Demons’ tight ends and fullbacks.

With at Daytona, Peterson helmed an offense that averaged 30.9 points per game and helped lead the Warriors to a 6-2 record. His offense posted conference-leading totals in rushing and passing yards, and three players earned Division I scholarships under his direction.

Peterson spent two seasons coaching wide receivers and was the special teams coordinator at East Ridge and Oak Ridge high schools in Florida. While at Oak Ridge, he helped lead the Pioneers to a top-five state ranking.

He also served as an offensive coordinator in the Florida All-Star Game.

A two-time All-American wide receiver at Liberty, Peterson played professionally in both the NFL (Chicago Bears) and the Canadian Football League (BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers).

During his career at Liberty, Peterson set school records for receptions (215), receiving yards (3,170) and receiving touchdowns (27) and 100-yard receiving games (15) while earning three first-team all-conference and all-state honors.

 A May 2016 Liberty graduate in exercise science, Peterson is pursuing a master’s degree in sport administration at Northwestern State.Â
