Cleveland Davis enters his second season as a graduate assistant with the Northwestern State program, working with the defensive line.
In his first season with the Demons, Davis helped Isaiah Wheeler set a career high by recording a team-leading three sacks.
Davis comes to Natchitoches after lettering as a fullback and a defensive tackle at LSU, drawing three starts on special teams across those two seasons. Davis also was a regular member of the LSU “Wild Tiger” special teams units. He was a team captain for the Tigers in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in 2012.
Davis began his coaching career while at LSU, volunteering more than 1,500 hours across five seasons at McKinley High School in Baton Rouge. At McKinley, Davis coached running backs and had three players sign college scholarships, including current Demons running back Charles Vaughn.
With Davis on the staff, McKinley’s offensive rushing attack became a bruising and productive bunch, which totaled at least 1,500 yards each season
Davis, a member of LSU’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee, has been an instructor at the Doug Williams Youth Football Camp, the National Underclassmen Combine, the Prep Football America National Collegiate Combine and the Eddie G. Robinson Youth Football Camp.
Davis has spent the past six years as an official for Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation (BREC), calling football, basketball, softball, baseball and volleyball games and matches. He has been the coordinator of events for BREC’s Flag Football Challenge in Zachary and has trained umpires, referees and scorekeepers in four different sports.
Davis is an August 2013 graduate of LSU in sports administration.
