After a four-year career at Southland Conference foe McNeese State, Amy Guinn has been named head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country teams.

“Amy is a great addition to our program and we look forward to working with her,” said head track and field coach Mike Heimermann. “She comes to us with a wealth of experience after having a successful career at McNeese, and we hope her success continues.”

Guinn earned a number of accolades while at McNeese, including 2010 All-LSWA and 2009 All-Louisiana team honors. She finished 30th at league championships for a spot in the NCAA south regionals, placing 54th.

Guinn was named to the 2010 All-Louisiana track and field team in the 5000 meter (17:20) and the 10,000 meter (36:24), both of which were the best collegiate times in the state at the time.

As a junior, she finished atop the conference in the 5000 and 10,000 meter races and was named McNeese track MVP. Guinn also placed second in the Southland in the 3000 meter and fourth in the mile at the indoor championships that year.

Guinn is a native of Lake Charles, earning letters in cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Barbe High School. She was a member of the district championships teams, as well as the All-State team for cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Her mother, father and sister, Tiffany, all attended McNeese. Tiffany was a member of the cross country and track teams.
