In his first season in Natchitoches, Nick Ammirati brings a championship-caliber background to the Northwestern State coaching staff.
Ammirati was the starting catcher for the 2013 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who advanced to the College World Series. During his two-year career in Starkville, Ammirati was the batterymate for 12 pitchers who eventually played professional baseball.
Ammirati was a two-time Southeastern Conference All-Academic selection and earned his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2013.
On the field, Ammirati was a member of the 2012 SEC champion Bulldogs and was named SEC Player of the Week on April 23, 2013. Defensively, Ammirati posted a .984 fielding percentage and was charged with just one passed ball while playing 51 games as a senior.
Following his Mississippi State career, Ammirati signed a free-agent contract with the Seattle Mariners organization.
In high school at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J., Ammirati caught another first-round pick, current Boston Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello, and was a key contributor to the school’s 2007 state and national championships.
Before arriving in Natchitoches, Ammirati was a volunteer assistant coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology and was an assistant coach for the Hoptown Hoppers of the Ohio Valley Collegiate League.
