NATCHITOCHES -- The Demon Victory Fund (DVF) fall membership drive beginning Thursday will focus on renewing members from the 2008-09 drive and adding new members who support Northwestern State's 325 student-athletes competing in 14 NCAA Division I sports.
The DVF fall membership push will continue until the NSU Athletic Association "Basketball Season Ticket Pickup Party" on Nov. 9 at Prather Coliseum before the Lady Demons basketball team plays an exhibition game that night at 7.
All NSU Athletic Association members who renew their pledges or join by making a minimum cash contribution of $60 will be eligible for a drawing for one of two $100 gift cards from The Demon Bookstore, the corporate sponsor of the 2009-10 DVF.
Another $100 gift card will be awarded to the Athletic Association member who refers the most new members.
Coinciding with the men's and women's basketball season ticket sales drive and courtside ticket sales, the DVF fall membership drives have added 121 members and a total of $58,713 over the past two years to the general scholarship fund.
After three consecutive record-breaking annual fund years from 2007-2009, the 2009-10 campaign is off to its strongest start ever, with 170 members making "Select 100" pledges of $1,000 or more.
"Athletic Association membership has not waned in the face of economic hardships all over the nation and the world, a testament to the dedication of NSU's alumni, financial, corporate, and in-kind supporters," said Athletic Association Executive Director Dr. William Broussard. "The annual fund (DVF) is the life-blood of the department, and it enables us to provide scholarship support to very deserving young men and women.
"Renewals are very important, and as we continue to uncover new funding sources, it is critical that past supporters continue to maintain their giving levels or consider increasing them if they can," he added.
