You can join Lanny Lawrence Wednesday night at the Fox & Hound Pub in Richardson, Texas, located at I 75N and West Campbell.? This week's show starts at 7:30, not 8:00, and we hear you'd better be there by 6:00 if you want a seat!!!
----------------------------------------------
Wednesday is a red-letter day for football fans everywhere -- National Signing Day.
For me, it's the end of six weeks of having to tell friends something I hate to say -- "I don't know" -- because, after all, information IS my business.
NCAA rules prohibit athletic staff members from publicly discussing recruiting until prospects have signed. With Scott Stoker's announcement of his new football signing class, the gag order is lifted Wednesday.
Not a moment too soon. Now we can really focus on the big story -- Lanny Lawrence's run for the roses.
As you know by now, the former Demon linebacker is one of the contenders on the ABC "reality" TV show "The Bachelorette."
Lanny, who made 52 tackles for the 1999 Demons, has certainly made a good showing through three episodes. He caught Meredith's eye on the first show and made the cut from 25 bachelors down to 15. Episode Two was a fine hour for our hero, whose horsemanship came in handy as he collected another rose while the cut when from 15 to 10.
I was in Prather Coliseum last Wednesday night and didn't see a tape of the show, but between accounts from friends and former teammates, and the episode summary on the ABC.com website, I know Lanny had a close call. The cut was supposed to be six bachelors, but Meredith couldn't decide. She sent three of the 10 packing, and the last rose went into our man's hands.
Oh, the drama.
One of Lanny's former NSU teammates, Ricky Jones, is among the supporters who have joined Lanny and his brother Matt, also an ex-Demon player, each Wednesday to watch the show at the Fox & Hound in Richardson.
Here's Ricky's report:
"I have been going to Dallas the past three Wednesdays to watch the show with Lanny and the other 200++ that have been showing up to watch.? I also wanted you to know that there have been NSU Alumni there since night one.? Last week there were even some current students there.? I don't think they made it back for class though, seeing as I left at midnight and they were still there wooing Damon, who did not receive a rose at the second rose ceremony.? "
What fun!
And to think that folks my age figured if any former Demon player ever appeared on "The Bachelorette," it would have to be 'Britt' Brittain (shown above), our intrepid sideline reporter for the Demon Sports Network and social trailblazer.
Former Lady Demon track and field athlete and cheerleader Amaris Davidson is a dance line member for the Houston Rockets. We've heard that she tried out for "American Idol" and may have appeared on one of the recent episodes.
Not to be outdone, former NSU baseball star and minor leaguer Tom Batson is reportedly preparing for his fling with fame. OK, so the syndicated "Elimidate" isn't a network staple, but with Tommy's wry sense of humor, he's definitely a perfect typecast for that show!
Stay close to your TV. It seems that pro games aren't the only places you need to watch to follow former Demons nowadays.
