TROY, Ala. - The Northwestern State Demons' volleyball team looks to continue its incredible run that includes a five-game winning streak this weekend as they face Murray State, the Citadel and Troy in the Troy Invitational Friday and Saturday.

NSU (6-6) will face Murray State (1-8) Friday at 3:30 p.m. Then the Demons will play two matches on Saturday against The Citadel (3-6) at 10:30 a.m. and Troy (2-4) at 3:30 p.m.

The Demons enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak after victories against Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, ULM, Grambling and Tuesday night at home against Louisiana Tech.

NSU's Jade Longlad has four straight double-doubles with digs and assists. Longlad enters the weekend leading the Southland Conference in assists and assists per set (345 and 9.32).

The Demons also possess the reigning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Emmarie McFarland, who has 12 straight games with 10 or more digs. The Alvin, Texas native leads the conference in digs (204) and is second in digs per set (4.86).

Freshman Olivia Nzioki earned SLC Offensive Player of the Week as she has 60 kills in her last four games. Out of Shawnee, Kansas, Nzioki tallied a team season-high of 22 kills in the team's win over Grambling last week.

Demon head coach Ben Kaszeta, while pleased with the recent success, made it clear they have bigger plans.

"We're glad to have the success we've had," said Kaszeta. "But we want to take it into this weekend and have a 'business as usual' approach each and every game and that includes this weekend."

The Demons play three unfamiliar opponents this weekend as they have combined for just six matches all-time against Murray State (0-1), The Citadel (first meeting) and Troy (2-3).

The Demons were defeated by Murray State in five sets back on Sept. 1, 2007, at a neutral site. NSU has faced Troy five times with the Demons winning the last contest against the Trojans 3-0 on Sept. 1, 2017. The teams went 17 years without playing as Troy beat NSU 3-0 on Sept. 2, 2000, at a neutral site.

NSU defeated Troy in five sets on the road in 1999 then lost the year before at home 3-1. The Trojans won the first matchup nearly 30 years ago with a 3-0 win at a neutral site on Sept. 14, 1996.
