NATCHITOCHES — Northwestern State tennis returns to the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex this weekend, looking to build on a strong start to Southland Conference play.

This weekend's matches against New Orleans and Nicholls will serve as makeup contests after their originally scheduled meetings on March 7 and March 9 were postponed due to inclement weather. NSU's matchup with UL Lafayette was also postponed, leaving the Lady Demons without a match since facing Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on March 2.

NSU (6–4, 2–0) hosts New Orleans on Saturday at 2 p.m. before welcoming Nicholls on Monday at 11 a.m. as conference play shifts back to Natchitoches.

The Lady Demons enter the weekend with momentum after sweeping their opening Southland road trip with back-to-back 4–3 victories over UTRGV and Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.

Both matches came down to the final court, showcasing the team's composure under pressure.

Against UTRGV, NSU rallied after dropping the doubles point.

Senior captain Sofi Garcia helped spark the comeback with a dominant 6–0, 6–2, win at No. 6 singles, while Honoka Umeda added a straight-set victory at the top of the lineup. Martina Acebedo Bonocore secured another key point before Maria Farina closed out the 4–3 win with a comeback three-set victory.

Two days later in Corpus Christi, the Lady Demons once again found themselves in a tightly contested battle.

NSU secured the doubles point behind a 7–5 victory from the pairing of Bonocore and Athina Grigoriadou before Umeda and Bonocore delivered singles wins.

With the match tied 3–3, Garcia clinched the victory in dramatic fashion, winning a third-set tiebreak 7–3 to seal the 7–5, 2–6, 7–6 win and secure NSU's second conference victory.

Friday's matchup brings in a strong New Orleans squad.

The Privateers (6-2) enter the weekend led by sophomore Fleur Sprengers, who holds a perfect 8–0 singles record at the No. 1 position. Nouray Khaled has also been a steady presence with a 5–2 mark playing
exclusively at the No. 3 spot.

New Orleans is coming off a 4-2 loss to North Dakota on Thursday, where the Privateers dropped the doubles points behind North Dakotas dominant flight one team of Ethel Li and Jule Schulte. UNO's Sprengers dominated at her position, but the Privateers ultimately fell to the Fighting Hawks.

Following the visit from the Privateers, the Lady Demons welcome the Colonels to Jack Fisher on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Nicholls (3–3) visits Natchitoches on Monday after facing SLC foe Stephen F. Austin earlier in the week. The Colonels arrive having dropped their last two matches, falling to UL Lafayette (6–1) and North Dakota (4–3).

Nicholls is led by Julia Bordignon, who holds a 4–2 record, while Noemie Piquet also sits at 4–2 overall, including a 3–2 mark at the No. 4 singles position.

With two conference victories already secured on the road, NSU now turns its focus to defending home court as SLC play continues.
