NATCHITOCHES — Northwestern State delivered a dominant performance Sunday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex, sweeping LSU-Shreveport 7–0 behind commanding efforts in both doubles and singles play.
Head coach Marcos Morelli was pleased with the complete effort.
"I am happy with the performance in doubles and in singles overall," Morelli said.
The Lady Demons set the tone immediately in doubles competition.
Martina Acebedo Bonocore and Athina Grigoriadou started the day off with a decisive 6–0 victory at No. 2.
At the No. 1 position, Honoka Umeda and Lolita Hukasian followed with a 6–2 win over Lidia Gomez and Ana Julia de Paula Mandrot, while the third court went unfinished once the outcome was decided.
"We have been talking about the importance of playing on our terms," Morelli said. "Both doubles teams were able to set the tone from the start."
That momentum carried directly into singles play, where NSU asserted control across the lineup, surrendering just five total games in completed matches.
Grigoriadou secured the point at No. 2 after her opponent retired early in the match.
Hukasian sparked the singles surge with a straight-set sweep of Jade Derks, and Pika Doberlet followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–1, victory over Ana Julia de Paula Mandrot.
At the top of the lineup, Umeda anchored the effort with a steady 6–1, 6–1, win at No. 1. Sofi Garcia, returning to the lineup at No. 6, made an immediate impact with a dominant straight-sets sweep of Christlyn Ross.
Acebedo Bonocore rounded out the performance at No. 3, cruising to a 6–1, 6–0, victory.
"The intensity was very high in all six singles," Morelli said. "They were competitive matches, but we had to play on our terms. I am happy because they were able to do that from start to finish."
Garcia's return to the lineup was particularly notable. The veteran delivered a flawless performance in her first match back, something Morelli said was simply good to see.
"We're super happy for her to be back on court," Morelli said. "We're just happy she's healthy."
With the sweep, NSU protected its home court in emphatic fashion and showcased balance across every position in the lineup — from doubles combinations to the final singles point.
The Lady Demons remain in Natchitoches as Tyler Junior College comes to the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex on Friday. Doubles is set to start at 1 p.m.
