NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State Demons' volleyball team wraps up its four-game Southland Conference homestand Saturday afternoon at 1p.m. against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.

The Demons (10-10, 2-3 SLC) are looking to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to league UT-Rio Grande Valley (9-7, 5-0 SLC) Thursday. NSU's Amber Craig had 11 kills while Emmarie McFarland had 14 digs, but the Demons' offense was fairly neutralized by UTRGV. NSU hit just .162 (37 kills, 18 errors, 105 attacks).

NSU will try to even its conference record Saturday against the Islanders (6-10, 4-1 SLC). However, history is not on the Demons' side as they are 1-9 in their last 10 games against A&M-Corpus Christi and have lost 15 straight sets to the Islanders.

The Demons are led by Elsie Sanchez with 222 kills (3.36 kps). Senior Jade Longlad continues to lead the Southland in assists and assists per set with 635 (9.48 aps).

Anna Claire Hebert remains the Demons' top threat at the service line. The freshman has 23 aces which is fourth in the Southland and 0.32 aces per set, eighth in the league.

The Islanders enter Saturday's match with NSU, under 11th-year head coach Steve Greene, on the heels of a 3-1 win over East Texas A&M Thursday night as they finished the match with 60 kills led by Erin Herrmann with 13.

Kenna Buchanon leads the Islanders offensively with 158 kills (2.77 kps). The senior has 65 kills (3.6 kps) in conference play. The Islanders' setter, Ava Hight, is also a solid piece of the puzzle with 323 assists (5.95 aps).

"They (Islanders) run a different style of offense," said second-year Demon head coach Ben Kaszeta. "They do stuff really fast. Where UTRGV has a similar style to us where they try to beat you with power. Corpus Christi tries to beat you with their speed. That's who they are and what their coach does. Not a lot of time to adjust to it with them coming in just a day. But it's a matter of staying in our game plan and knowing what their tendencies are."

Fans can watch Saturday's match on ESPN+ as Patrick Netherton and Caley Carter will have the call. Live stats will be available at NSUDemons.com while live updates can be found on twitter/X on the NSU volleyball page @NSUDemonsVB.
