NATCHITOCHES—The women's track and field team proved to be one of the best teams in the nation on the track.

It proved again that it is not too shabby in the classroom either, as it was announced as one of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team as a team, as well as five student-athletes earned their way onto the team as well.

In addition to being honored as a team, Raven-Symone Jarrett, Shakera Kirk, Teodora Samac, Maygan Shaw and Shakera Williams all made it as well individually.

In order to be honored, the team must post at least a 3.0 GPA and individually, the student-athlete must post a 3.25 GPA or better in the last semester.

The team sported a 3.348 GPA as a team in addition to winning both the indoor and outdoor conference championships for a second consecutive season.

Fresh off earning a spot on the All-Louisiana Team in both the 100-meter hurdles and heptathlon, Jarrett garners more recognition—this time off the track.

She earned a spot as a track and field all-academic athlete, as she posted a 3.33 GPA while majoring in homeland security.

Another sensational athlete is Shaw, who just adds to a season filled with accolades.

The Second Team All-American picked up another honor, as she earned an all-academic athlete spot.

While posting one of the best seasons in SLC history, she still managed to put up a 3.423 GPA in the classroom while majoring in nursing.

She was the SLC Women's Track Athlete of the Year in both indoor and outdoor seasons, as she took home five gold medals at the conference meet. She also broke the school record in the outdoor 400 on two occasions.

Shaw also found the podium three times in the indoor season, including breaking the school record in the 400 in the indoor season as well.

Samac is the lone Lady Demon freshman to be honored, as the javelin thrower recorded a 4.0 GPA as a health and exercise science major.

She found the podium at the SLC outdoor meet, placing third with a toss of 149-9, which helped earn her a spot at the NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville.

A pair of Shakeras round out the group for the Lady Demons. After earning First Team All-Louisiana in the shot put, she made the team posting after posting a 3.433 GPA while majoring in liberal arts.

Williams earned her first team spot at the SLC outdoor meet, tossing a 51-2.75 to claim the gold in addition to finding the podium in the indoor meet as well.

Kirk posted a 3.408 GPA after reaching the podium once again in the discus, majoring in psychology.

She has now made the podium in the discus at both outdoor conference meets.
