KRŠKO, Slovenia – Pika Doberlet of the Northwestern State tennis team, along with her partner Zala Vnuk delivered a commanding performance to claim the Slovenian national championship in doubles, putting on a display of skill and chemistry that made them unstoppable throughout the tournament.
The duo kicked off their title run with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Laura Cerovšek and Pia Poglajen in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Doberlet and Vnuk faced the strong pairing of Zala Bizjak and Meta Marenk. The final proved more competitive, but Doberlet and Vnuk's consistency and court awareness made the difference. After a tightly contested first set, Doberlet's pairing pulled away to seal the match 6-4, 6-1, and lift the national trophy.
"I'm incredibly proud of Pika," says head coach Marcos Morelli. "Winning a national championship is an outstanding achievement and a true testament to her hard work, dedication and talent."
This past season, Doberlet made impressive strides in doubles play, posting a 9-3 overall record, including a strong 7-3 mark alongside graduating senior Tjaša Klevisar. Her success wasn't limited to the court, as the rising sophomore also earned a spot on the 2025 Southland Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing her achievements in the classroom as well.
Winning a national championship is a tremendous accomplishment for Doberlet. The rising sophomore now looks poised to carry that momentum into the upcoming season at NSU, where she'll aim to help the Lady Demons defend their regular season championship in Natchitoches.
