NSU announces Leave Your Mark giving campaign

NATCHITOCHES – As the 2025 calendar year comes to an end, Northwestern State fans have a chance to make it a happy one for the Demons' athletic department.

The department announced its Leave Your Mark campaign, which carries a goal of raising $100,000 in donations from Demon supporters by Dec. 31.

Potential donors can direct their support in a variety of ways including the annual fund, which supports all 14 of Northwestern's Division I sports, and the Fork'EM Collective, which handles Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and revenue sharing for student-athletes.

"The changes in college athletics across the past 12 to 24 months have placed our athletic department in a much different space, but one thing remains consistent – our appreciation for the generosity of our donors and supporters," Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian said. "The annual fund is the lifeblood of any college athletic department. Donating to the Leave Your Mark campaign ensures our programs will remain competitive in the Southland Conference. For Demon fans, a donation to the annual fund or the Fork'EM Collective makes a perfect gift to honor another Northwestern fan or to extend your personal Demon legacy."

Contributions to the campaign are tax deductible and can be made in several ways. Check with your tax professional or financial advisor to see how a donation affects your tax status.

Types of gifts
Read more about each type of gift and the steps you can take to ensure proper accounting of your end-of-the-year gift:
Gifts of cash/check
  • Make checks payable to the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Indicate your gift designation on the memo line of your check (i.e. General Needs or Specific Sport).
  • The date of the gift is subject to IRS rules. It is the responsibility of the donor to substantiate the date of the contribution.
  • Mailed checks must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2025, to be recorded as a 2025 gift.
Gifts by debit/credit cards
  • The IRS requires credit card donations to be processed in the same year of the deduction. Therefore, all credit card donations must be processed on or before Dec. 31. We encourage you to make your credit card gifts online to ensure that they will be processed in 2025.
Gifts of securities/stocks
Gifts of appreciated securities provide financial support to NSU Athletics and the Demons Unlimited Foundation, and they may have tax benefits for the donor as well.
Donors can instruct their financial institution to transfer securities electronically to Demons Unlimited Foundation at:

LPL Financial Services
DTC Number: 0075
For further credit to: Demons Unlimited Foundation
Account number: 78589406
In addition to the transfer information, we ask that you communicate the stock transfer request to Jamie Howard, Director of Business Operations at howardj@nsula.edu so that we can keep track of the transaction.

IRAs and Qualified Charitable Deductions
Donors age 70 ½ and above can use a standard IRA to support the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Arrange a qualified charitable deduction (QCD) with your IRA's administrator; be sure to allow enough time for its receipt by end of the year. Donors age 73 and greater can use their required minimum distribution (RMD) to make a QCD.

Donor advised funds
Donors can make a contribution to a fund set up with a variety of firms or organizations and take a charitable tax deduction in the year of the contribution. Then the donor, as the adviser, can direct distributions from the DAF to the public charity of their choice.

Remember your matching gift
Many employers match gifts made by employees, spouses and retirees. Check with your human resources department to see if you qualify. If your company participates, return the required matching gift form with your gift to the Demons Unlimited Foundation.
