COMMERCE, Texas – The Northwestern State Demons' volleyball team hits the road to take on the East Texas A&M Lions Saturday at 11 a.m. at The University Field House in a rematch from Thursday night in Southland Conference action.
The Demons (1-26, 0-13 SLC) were defeated Thursday at home by the Lions 3-0 (8-16, 6-7 SLC). NSU pushed the Lions nearly stealing sets two and three before falling 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21. The Demons were led by
Deja Benjamin with 13 kills while
Emmarie McFarland led a much-improved NSU defense with 14 digs. NSU
Jade Longlad also had a season-high 30 assists.
The Lions followed the lead of Gracie Campbell who finished with a game-high 18 kills. Jade Washington and Rendi Fetty had 13 and 10 digs, respectively, on the defensive side.
Benjamin, a senior, enters Saturday's match as she closes in on 500 kills. The senior had 467 with three matches remaining. Junior
Olivia Bush eyes her 200
th career kill as she comes in with 192.
Longlad, a junior, is second in the Southland in aces with 47 behind UT-Rio Grande Valley's Isabella Constantini with 49.
Saturday marks the final road match of the season for the Demons before returning home for the last two games of the season Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against UT Rio Grande Valley (17-7, 12-1 SLC). Then, Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m., the Demons will host senior day when they take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-15, 6-7 SLC).
