HOUSTON, Texas – The Northwestern State Demons take on the Houston Christian Huskies in Southland Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Sharp Gym as NSU looks to split the season series.
The Demons (1-24, 0-11 SLC) are coming off a loss on the road to the UIW Cardinals (12-11, 8-3 SLC) 3-0 on Thursday. NSU was led by
Olivia Bush with eight kills while
Jade Longlad added 24 assists. However, the Demons couldn't overcome 24 attack errors and a .301 hitting percentage from UIW as the Cardinals swept the seasons series.
The Huskies (11-13, 6-5 SLC) look to rebound from a home loss Thursday night to the East Texas A&M Lions (7-15, 5-6 SLC). HCU committed 25 attack errors to just 11 for the Lions falling in three sets.
NSU enters Thursday's contest led by
Deja Benjamin with 174 kills for the season (2.15 k/s) while junior
Samaya Wesson had 152 (1.88 k/s). Longlad continues to lead the Southland in aces with 44.
HCU's Allana Archie leads the way for the Huskies with 234 kills (3.04 k/s). Setter Peyton Fedal is third in the Southland in assists with 695 (9.93 a/s).
Thursday also marks the second matchup of the season between the Huskies and Demons with HCU winning the first one in Natchitoches 3-0. The Demons competed well, dropping the first set 25-20 and the final set 25-23. The Demons were led by
Elsie Sanchez Oliver with nine kills in the match while Archie had eight to pace HCU.
Following Saturday's match, the Demons will return home to face East Texas A&M Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
