CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Northwestern State Demons' volleyball team continues its road trip as it takes on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christ Islanders Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Southland Conference action.
The Demons (1-16, 0-3 Southland) are coming off a loss Thursday night to UT-Rio Grande Valley in three sets (25-12, 25-17 and 25-12). NSU was led by
Elsie Sanchez Oliver with five kills while
Deja Benjamin and
Samaya Wesson both had four.
NSU comes into Saturday's game led by Benjamin with 121 kills. The Demons also boast the Southland's leader in aces in
Jade Longlad with 33.
The Islanders (5-10, 1-2 Southland) lost in four sets to East Texas A&M Thursday at home. They enter Saturday's match led by Katelyn Grienke in kills with 110. Sophomore setter Virginia Van Der Werff leads the Southland in assists with 519 and is 15
th in the country.
The Islanders lead the all-time series 16-12 and have dominated the series recently, winning nine of the last 10 against the Demons. NSU's only win came in the 2022 Southland Conference quarterfinals, beating the Islanders 3-2 in Hammond, Louisiana.
