Demons end road trip Saturday at UNO

NSU takes on UNO in conference action Saturday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Northwestern State Demon volleyball team plays their fourth consecutive conference road match Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when it takes on the University of New Orleans Privateers.

The Demons (1-17, 0-5 SLC) are coming off a loss Thursday night to the Southeastern Lady Lions (12-5, 4-1 SLC) in straight sets (25-12, 25-12 and 25-16). NSU was led by senior Deja Benjamin with nine kills while redshirt freshman Reagan Hamm had 13 assists and true freshman Emmarie McFarland added 11 digs to aid the defense. However, SLU finished the match with 41 kills to 22 for the Demons.

The Privateers (6-12, 1-4 SLC) were defeated Thursday by East Texas A&M (4-12, 2-3 SLC) in three sets (25-23, 25-21 and 25-23). UNO was led by grad student Alessandra Meoni with 25 digs and 13 kills for her second double-double of the season.

NSU enters Saturday's contest second in the Southland in aces with 109 behind Stephen F. Austin with 113. However, NSU's Jade Longlad continues to lead the league with 34.

Benjamin leads the Demons in kills with 141 and upped her career mark to 414 while Meoni leads the Privateers with 148.

The Demons lead the all-time series against the Privateers 18-9 and have a seven-game winning streak against their instate conference counterparts. NSU's last loss to UNO was March 25, 2021 during the postponed COVID-19 season.
