CONWAY, Ark. – The Northwestern State tennis team recorded a near-perfect day at the UCA Invitational.
 
All four of the Lady Demons won their matches on the day.
 
Junior Maria Farina and freshman Pika Doberlet continued their stellar performance in doubles this fall with a round-one win against Arkansas State's Loles Carbo Chova and Abigail Thurmer 6-2.
 
Junior Zoi Spyrou and sophomore Honoka Umeda rounded out the doubles for the Demons with a 6-3 victory against Central Arkansas' Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Konomi Miyakawa.
 
"We did very well today," head coach Marcos Morelli says. "We saw improvement in playing simple. It's a learning process, we need to get better, but it is a step in the right direction. The results show it."
 
In singles, all four Lady Demons finished strong, winning at least once during their rounds.
 
Umeda posted a terrific showing, convincingly beating ASU's Lily Cvanciger 6-1, 6-0, before completing the comeback against Austin Peay's Sophia Baranov 2-6, 7-5, 12-10.
 
Doberlet dominated her first two rounds with a win against Oral Roberts' Abby Wise 6-4, 6-4, and ASU's Ariadna Fernandez, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Spyrou picks up the win against APSU's Pauline Bruns 0-6, 7-6(7-5), 10-6. Spyrou continued the hot streak with a win versus ASU's Carbo Chova 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
 
Farina joined in on the action, winning against ASU's Carla Muro Castellvi 0-6, 6-3, 10-7. She lost in straight sets after against APSU's Luca Bohlen 4-6, 4-6.
 
"The difference in singles was that we played simple," coach Morelli said. "Play simple, play tennis."
 
The tournament continues Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with the continuation of singles and finishing off with the final two rounds of doubles.
