DENTON, Texas – Northwestern State finished off the day at the North Texas Diving Eagle Invite on a strong note.
The Demons put juniors
Maria Farina and
Zoi Spyrou together for the first time this fall and it paid of in the form of a 6-1 win against Texas State's tandem of Tadiwa Mauchi and Emily Niers. The pair also picked up a win against UT-Arlington's pairing of Adela Latalova and Maria Lucia Araoz.
Farina also paired up with freshman
Valeria Ortega in their only doubles match of the day, coming up just short 7-6 (2) in a loss against Louisiana Tech's Soha Singh and Nina Skoric.
"Maria did a great job leading the way for us today," head coach
Marcos Morelli said. "As a team, we need to be willing to stay out there all day."
Ortega and sophomore
Honoka Umeda shared a court for the final matchup in doubles for the Demons against Stephen F. Austin's Sonja Rooth and Ana Chavez Sanchez, picking up 6-3 victory.
Three Lady Demons played in singles matches on the day as well.
Farina took care of her opponent in her lone singles match of the day, winning against North Texas' Lilly Schultz, 6-2, 6-3.
Spyrou lost against UTA's Adela Latalova 6-1, 6-4.
Ortega dropped her set against SFA's Ana Chavez Sanchez 6-1. 6-0.
The Lady Demons continue their Fall season next Friday when they head to Conway for the UCA Invitational.
