DENTON, Texas – The Northwestern State tennis team finished off day two at the Diving Eagle Invite with a singles and doubles win Saturday on the campus of the University of North Texas.
 
Senior Tjasa Klevisar and junior Zoi Spyrou fought right back into the win column after defeating Texas State's pairing of Tadiwa Mauchi and Emily Niers 6-1.
 
"Our process is becoming better," head coach Marcos Morelli states. "We got back to playing simple, back to what will win us matches. We have more to improve, but we are getting better."
 
Junior Maria Farina and freshman Valeria Ortega teamed up for the first time this fall season in a loss against Louisiana Tech's Mio Kozaki and June Vigeron 6-3, 7-6.
 
Two of the three Lady Demons would split their singles matches on Saturday.
 
Spyrou dropped her first-round bout against TSU's Emily Niers 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. She bounced back in the winning column against Stephen F. Austin's Jemma Cave 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.
 
Farina took an early loss to Louisiana Tech's June Vigeron 6-3, 7-6, but rebounded to pick up a win in the second round to Louisiana Tech's Alice Brooks 6-1, 6-4.
 
Ortega fell in straight sets to SFA's Alkmini Giannakogioguo 6-0, 6-0 and dropped the second-round match-up against SFA's Avery Kinsey 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Demons continue their singles round match-ups Sunday at 9 a.m.
