NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State athletics fans have an ability to leave a lasting impression on the Demons as the 2024 calendar year comes to a close.
Fans and supporters can leave a tangible imprint on their favorite sport by donating to the Demon Legacy campaign, which carries a goal of raising $100,000 by Dec. 31.
Potential donors have three options through the Demon Legacy campaign: donating to the general fund, sport-specific giving and contributing to the Fork 'EM Collective.
"Regardless of the time of the year, we always appreciate what our supporters do for Northwestern State Athletics," Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian said. "With the changing landscape of college athletics, there are more avenues than ever for donors to offer their financial support. The Demon Legacy campaign gives our supporters a three-pronged approach to giving, which includes donating on your own or making a gift in someone's name as a stocking stuffer for a loved one. However you decide to give, you are helping shape our Demon legacy – and for that, we truly are grateful."
Contributions to the Demon Legacy campaign are tax deductible and can be made in several ways. Check with your tax professional or financial advisor to see how a donation affects your tax status.

Types of gifts
Read more about each type of gift and the steps you can take to ensure proper accounting of your end-of-the-year gift:
Gifts of cash/check
- Make checks payable to the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Indicate your gift designation on the memo line of your check (i.e. General Needs or Specific Sport).
- The date of the gift is subject to IRS rules. It is the responsibility of the donor to substantiate the date of the contribution.
- Mailed checks must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2024, to be recorded as a 2024 gift.
Gifts by debit/credit cards
- The IRS requires credit card donations to be processed in the same year of the deduction. Therefore, all credit card donations must be processed on or before Dec. 31. We encourage you to make your credit card gifts online to ensure that they will be processed in 2024.
Gifts of securities/stocks
Gifts of appreciated securities provide financial support to NSU Athletics and the Demons Unlimited Foundation, and they may have tax benefits for the donor as well.
Donors can instruct their financial institution to transfer securities electronically to Demons Unlimited Foundation at:
LPL Financial Services
DTC Number: 0075
For further credit to: Demons Unlimited Foundation
Account number: 78589406
In addition to the transfer information, we ask that you communicate the stock transfer request to Jamie Howard, Director of Business Operations at howardj@nsula.edu so that we can keep track of the transaction.
IRAs and Qualified Charitable Deductions
Donors age 70 ½ and above can use a standard IRA to support the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Arrange a
qualified charitable deduction (QCD) with your IRA's administrator; be sure to allow enough time for its receipt by end of the year. Donors age 73 and greater can use their required minimum distribution (RMD) to make a QCD.
Donor advised funds
Donors can make a contribution to a fund set up with a variety of firms or organizations and take a charitable tax deduction in the year of the contribution. Then the donor, as the adviser, can direct distributions from the DAF to the public charity of their choice.
Remember your matching gift
Many employers match gifts made by employees, spouses and retirees. Check with your human resources department to see if you qualify. If your company participates, return the required matching gift form with your gift to the Demons Unlimited Foundation.
