NSU heads to West Texas A&M for Last Chance Meet

CANYON, Texas—About 20 Northwestern State athletes have one more chance to leap in position reach the NCAA Regional Prelims in the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet on Friday at the WT Track and Field Complex.

The goal is to have a qualifying mark to advance to the NCAA Regionals, which are in Jacksonville, Florida and reach the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

For individual events, the top 48 earn a spot in the regionals, while relays have the top 24 teams.

The meet begins with the field events at 1 p.m., starting with the women's high jump. The running events start at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100.

Destine-Unique Scott and Aarika Lister are aiming to keep their careers going, each running in relay events.

The men's 4x400 relay team—Scott, Desmond Duncan, Galen Loyd, Cyrus Jacobs—are coming off their best performance of the year at the Southland Conference championships.
Scott's 4x100 team is also aiming to reach the regionals.

Tarajh Hudson, Djimon Gumbs and Diamante Gumbs all made the regionals in 2022 and will aim to make it again in the discus, while Djimon Gumbs is participating in the shot put.

The freshmen class has proven its worth all season long and is aiming to earn spots in the regionals with Sanaria Butler, Sian Weller, Vanessa Balde and Cyrus Jacobs.

Last season, NSU had 15 athletes make regionals.

Other schools to participate include UT Tyler, Angelo State, Dallas Baptist and Wayland Baptist, among others.
