NATCHITOCHES—After a successful meet in front of the home crowd, the Northwestern State women's track & field team swept the Southland Conference female weekly awards.
Sprinter
Sanaria Butler captured the SLC Female Track Performer of the Week, while pole vaulter
Madison Brown earned the SLC Field Performer of the Week.
It is the first weekly conference honor for both athletes.
Butler, a freshman from Port Arthur, posted a record-breaking performance in the 400-meters at the home meet, running a 52.22, which broke the school record in the event, as well as the meet record and Walter P. Ledet Complex record.
Her time leads the conference this season and the mark is also second in SLC history.
In addition to her impressive showing on the track, she earned a personal best in the long jump with a 20-0.25m claiming second place in the event, smashing her previous top mark on the season.
Butler's 400 time ranks 12
th in the South Central Region and tied for 23
rd nationally and 15
th in the long jump in the South Central Region and tied for 68
th nationally.
Brown, a junior from Natchitoches, thrilled the hometown crowd by clearing 12-6.75, which is a personal best and improved the conference's top mark for the outdoor season.
Her vault broke her previous season best of 12-1.5, which took place at the TCU Alumni Invitational.
The mark is 12
th in the South Central Region.
The Demons and Lady Demons head to Baylor for a two-day meet, beginning Friday, for their final meet prior to the SLC Outdoor Championships, which starts May 5.
