SAN MARCOS, Texas—The Northwestern State athletes concluded an impressive meet with several NSU-bests on the final day of the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex.
Six different athletes recorded their best NSU performances in events to finish off a strong meet.
After running a blazing 10.33 in the 100-meter dash Friday at the Texas Relays,
Simon Wulff followed that up with a 10.42, which was third in the event.
The time would have been a best for him as a Demon if not for the time he ran at the Texas Relays.
Wulff was one of three Demons to finish in the top eight of the men's 100-meter dash, being joined by
Dylan Swain and
Zachaeus Beard.
"Everyone ran well," head coach
Mike Heimerman said. "I'm very pleased with how everyone competed. Everyone did a lot of racing or competing over the last three days at two locations.
"While many were not personal records, they were great performances nonetheless. I'm so happy with the direction that everyone is headed in and am very excited for the rest of the season."
Swain continued a strong outdoor season by matching an NSU best with a 10.53, finishing in seventh place. Beard placed right behind him in eighth with a 10.54.
Both
Mikkel Johansson and
Cyrus Jacobs earned season bests in the event as well, as Jacobs posted a personal best time of 10.73, which was tied for 17
th in a stacked field. Johansson ran a 10.96.
On the women's side in the 100-meter dash,
Sileena Farrell posted a season best with a 12.46.
A pair of NSU athletes earned season bests in the 800-meter run, one from each gender.
On the men's side,
Stefan Klefasz finished second in the event, running a 1:54.54.
Ceyda Bayur ran a season best on the women's side, running a 2:16.67, placing third.
"A lot of the races at Texas State were ran into headwinds," Heimerman said. "So running those times were impressive."
Taj Morris ran another strong race in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.50, finishing 17
th out of 48 finishers.
On the field at the Bobcat Invitational,
Andrew Gilreath posted a 46-7 in the triple jump, finishing eighth. In the shot put,
Diamante Gumbs placed 17
th in a strong field with a distance of 54-2.5.
At the Texas Relays,
Djimon Gumbs tossed a 57-5.75 in the shot put.
After a week off, the Demons and Lady Demons host their annual Leon Johnson Invitational on April 15 at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
