CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – It's a rivalry renewed, as the Northwestern State tennis team aims to rebound from dropping the conference opener when it faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Lady Demons (8-6, 0-1 SLC) are set to face the reigning conference champions Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The two schools have dominated the conference for the past decade, as the two have represented the SLC in the NCAA Tournament in six of the past eight tournaments, including last season as the Islanders defeated NJIT in the tournament title game.

NSU is 12-13 against Corpus Christi since the series started in 2005. NSU won the last match 6-1 against Corpus at home during the 2022 season, which ended a three-match Islanders winning streak in the series.

In last year's match, the Lady Demons rattled off the first six points before the Islanders finished off the match win their lone point of the afternoon.

Tjasa Klevisar is 9-3 in singles on the season, including 6-1 at the top spot. Sofi Garcia has gone 8-4 in singles to this point, including a mark of 5-1 playing at the No. 4 singles spot.

In doubles, the tandem of Dorota Szczygielska and Renske Ubachs have a 10-3 record and have won 10 of the past 12 matches.

TAMUCC (14-2) has an impressive resume thus far this season with their only losses coming against Rice (4-0) and Houston (4-1). The Islanders have swept nine matches this season. They are coming into the match with a three-match win streak.

Four Islanders athletes are undefeated in singles, led by Emma Aucagne, who is 9-0 at the top spot in the singles rotation, which will set up a big showdown with Klevisar. Kateryna Rublevska has dominated at the back end of the rotation, going 11-0, splitting time between the Nos. 4-6 in the singles rotation.

The Lady Demons are back in Natchitoches on March 31 against Lamar to start a five-match homestand to conclude the regular season.
