NATCHITOCHES – After postponements and cancelations, the Lady Demons' mission and attitude remains unchanged.
The Lady Demons had a double header scheduled for Saturday against Weatherford College but was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.
Instead, NSU will now go head-to-head against LSU-Shreveport on Saturday at 1 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
"It feels great getting back playing at home on Saturday after some weather delays and schedule changes," head coach
Jonas Brobeck said. "We have done a good job focusing on the things we can control and getting better each day we step on the practice court."
NSU (3-1) will be entering the match intent on extending their current win streak to four after falling to TCU in its season opener.
Ayu Ishibashi and
Tjasa Klevisar are both 3-1 in singles and 3-0 as the No. 1 doubles team.
In singles, both Ishibashi and Klevisar dropped their first match at TCU, but have rebounded to each win their last three, all of them coming in straight sets.
The duo has won the past three doubles matches, not surrendering more than three games in any match in the process.
Dorota Szczygielska and her partner
Renske Ubachs are 3-1 at the No. 3 doubles position. Szczygielska is 3-1 in singles.
Like Ishibashi and Klevisar, Szczygielska also has won three in a row in singles. Against Jackson State, she dropped her first set before rebounding to win the final two to earn the victory.
LSUS (1-1) is coming off a long layoff after winning against Grambling 5-4. The Pilots opened the season with a 6-1 loss to Dillard, which is receiving votes in the NAIA poll.
The Pilots went 0-9 in the 2022 season, but six of the defeats came against teams in the top 11.
Angela Basto was second team All-Red River Athletic Conference for the Pilots last year and is off to a strong start to the 2023 season, having won her first two matches at the No. 1 singles spot, winning both in straight sets.
Following the match, the Lady Demons will travel to Louisiana-Monroe for their rescheduled match on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
"We want to continue to develop by getting quality matches and seeing that we translate what we work in and speak about in practice throughout matches," said Brobeck.
They will be back at Jack Fisher Tennis Complex on March 14 at 2 p.m. for their match against New Jersey Institute of Technology to start conference play.
