Baton Rouge – Three Northwestern State Lady Demons advanced to the second round on the first day of the ITA Southern Regional Open Singles on Thursday.
 
Sofi Garcia, Sara Erenda and Honoka Umeda all advanced to the second round in the third fall tournament.
 
Erenda defeated Lea Grinberg from Nicholls in the first round (6-7, 7-5, 10-7) before taking out Ksenia Reznitskaya in the second round (7-5, 6-2) to advance to the third.
 
In doubles, Erenda and her partner Garcia defeated Sophia Sara-Safarova and Qianyu Liu from Nicholls State in round one of open doubles. The duo advanced to round two after defeating Sara-Safarova and Liu.
 
Garcia, a sophomore from Argentina, defeated UL Lafayette's Jenaila Prulla (3-6, 6-0, [10-8]) in the first round before falling to Zenn Lim of Southern Miss 4-6, 6-4, [9-1].
 
Along with Garcia and Erenda, Umeda advanced to the second round after a dominant performance against Troy's Olivia Elliott, (6-1, 6-3). She fell in the second round in straight sets (6-2, 7-6) to Carla Urchoeguia from UL Lafayette.
 
Paige Wise and Tjasa Klevisar fell in the first round of open doubles to the doubles pairing Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Valeria San Miguel Soria of the North Alabama, 8-6.
 
The players are back at it on the second day of the ITA Southern Regional on Friday morning.
