NATCHITOCHES – Familiar faces in new roles will highlight Northwestern State's first season of ESPN+ broadcasts.
Patrick Netherton, the longtime voice of the Demons in his 20
th season, will handle the play-by-play calls of Northwestern State football, men's basketball and baseball while Tyler Moody will be the play-by-play voice of Lady Demon basketball.
Netherton's first appearance on the NSU-produced ESPN+ feed will come Sept. 20 when Northwestern State hosts Texas Southern in volleyball action.
"I am incredibly grateful and honored to have been at NSU for 20 years now to tell the story of Demon athletics," Netherton said. "I'm also excited to begin this ESPN+ venture to bring even more people into what is sure to be a bright athletics future at NSU."
Audio broadcasts of Northwestern State athletics will be housed on the Northwestern State Athletics app, which can be downloaded free for Apple and Android devices, and
www.NSUDemons.com.
In addition to his two decades as the radio voice of NSU athletics, Netherton was the play-by-play broadcaster for the television feed of Demons' 2001 and 2002 FCS Playoff games at Montana, the last of which came just months before he joined the Demon Sports Network.
The host of The Patrick Netherton Show, a daily sports talk show in Shreveport, Netherton has been behind the Demon Sports Network microphone for the Demons' 2004 FCS Playoff appearance at Montana, the buzzer-beating upset of third-seeded Iowa in the 2006 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, consecutive Southland Conference Tournament crowns and NCAA Softball Regional appearances in 2013 and 2014 and the first Southland Conference Baseball Tournament championship in school history and ensuing appearance at the 2018 NCAA Corvallis Regional.
"One of the things I've admired is how forward-thinking NSU has been in terms of our broadcasts with the guidance of (NSU TV General Manager) Davey Antilley," Netherton said. "We were doing in-house video streams long before it was as prevalent as it is now. We had our own app before others at our level. Now with the pivot to digital on both the audio and video side, we are staying current and ensuring the best access to Demon sports."
Moody is in his second year at Northwestern State, serving as the sideline reporter for Demon Sports Network broadcasts and as the play-by-play voice for women's basketball. Moody, a former college pitcher, has filled in on baseball broadcasts as well.
All Northwestern State football and basketball – men's and women's – games will be available on ESPN+ with additional soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball broadcasts to be carried.
Continuity and familiarity with the program were key factors in the decision to move Netherton and Moody into their respective ESPN+ roles.
"During his NSU career, Patrick has provided the soundtrack for many memorable moments in Demon athletics," Director of Athletics
Kevin Bostian said. "He was a natural choice to usher in this new era in Northwestern State broadcasts. Tyler Moody has established himself as a strong young broadcaster who brings a new energy to our broadcast team. We look forward to them adding their knowledge and passion to NSU sports on ESPN+."
