NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State freshman Tjasa Klevisar has been voted the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

Klevisar routed her opponents in two NSU wins as the Lady Demons took control of the Southland Conference standings.

The No. 2 singles player topped reigning SLC Player of the Week Gargi Pawar (6-3, 6-2) as part of a 6-1 win against Incarnate Word.

Klevisar notched NSU's first singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Mariya Shumeika as the Lady Demons stormed to a 6-1 team win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Teaming up with Mariella Minetti at No. 1 doubles, Klevisar was part of a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point against TAMU-CC. Minetti and Klevisar were leading 5-3 in doubles vs. UIW when NSU clinched the doubles point on a different court.

Klevisar's honor marks NSU's second this season as fellow freshman Ayu Ishibashi captured the award in the first week of March.

The Slovenian has been a force in her first season, improving to 8-5 at No. 2 singles with four wins in her last five matches.

In doubles, Klevisar/Minetti is unbeaten in their last seven matches with five wins.

NSU (11-4, 4-0 SLC) leads the league with just two matches remaining, including Sunday at McNeese.

Nicholls (10-6, 2-0 SLC) caps SLC play when NSU hosts them on April 9.
