NATCHITOCHES –
PJ Herrington called his performance against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday one of the most complete of his career.
The Southland Conference agreed.
Herrington took home his first career Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week award Monday for his stat-stuffing performance in the Demons' 41-14 win against Texas A&M-Commerce.
A senior from Natchez, Mississippi, Herrington had four tackles, a pair of pass breakups, one sack, one tackle for loss and a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Demons improved to 4-0 and stayed on top of the Southland Conference standings.
Herrington's pick-six was Northwestern State's first interception return for a touchdown since
Shemar Bartholomew's 96-yard touchdown return at Sam Houston on Nov. 16, 2019.
Herrington becomes the second Demon to earn a Southland Conference individual award, joining
Javon Antonio, who was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3.
Northwestern State returns to action this Saturday when they face Southeastern at 4 p.m. in Hammond. A win would clinch at least a share of the Southland Conference title for the Demons.
