DALLAS—On the second day of the SMU Red and Blue Challenge, Mariella Minetti and Ela Iwaniuk each won their singles matches at the top two spots in the rotation.

"We came back and played a solid singles against UTA," head coach Patric DuBois said. "I was proud of Mariella and Ela winning against their top two players.

They both set up points and executed very well. While the others came up short on a victory, we played pretty well and had some good battles."

Following her win against one of Abilene Christian's top players, Sarah Adams, Minetti defeated UTA's Aida Garcia Mendez at the No. 1 spot in singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Minetti also played well in doubles, as her and partner Patrycja Polanska convincingly beat North Texas' Sophia Hummel and Haruka Sasaki in doubles 6-2.

Iwaniuk joined Minetti with a singles win of her own, but had to go to a pro-set to do it. The Konarskie, Poland, native dropped the first set convincingly 6-1 before rebounding to win set two 6-2 and the pro-set 10-7.

Iwaniuk also came away with a doubles victory against UNT, with partner Emilija Dancetovic. The duo dominated 6-0 against Nidhi Surapaneni and Kexuan Zhou.

The day began with the Lady Demons playing doubles against UNT before doubles against SMU. The day finished with them going against UTA in singles.
NSU came away with two wins in the three doubles matches against UNT.

"We had a good start today against a tough North Texas team in doubles," DuBois said. "We had a very good process in all three matches."

Freshman Olivia Alfredsson fell for the first time in the fall, dropping one to Liz Chileno 6-4, 6-1.

The Lady Demons finish the Red and Blue Challenge tomorrow at 8 a.m. with singles matches against reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Central Arkansas.
