BATON ROUGE—Freshman Mariella Minetti advanced to the third round in the ITA Southern Regional at LSU Saturday.

Minetti defeated Auburn's Georgia Axon to advance to the main draw third round. She lost the first set 6-4, but took the final two sets 7-6(4) and 6-1 to advance. There, she fell to Ole Miss' Isolde de Jong in three sets. She took the first set 6-4, but dropped the next two 6-1, 6-3.

Senior Ela Iwaniuk was the other Lady Demon to win, defeating Tulane's Lauren Gish in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

The two doubles teams dropped their matches to top competition. Minetti and Patrycja Polanska lost to Mississippi State's duo of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine, who were ranked No. 2 in the bracket.

Dorota Szczygielska and Judit Castillo Gargallo lost to LSU's Taylor Bridges and Paris Corley 8-2. The LSU pairing is the No. 4 team in the bracket.

Castillo Gargallo and Emilija Dancetovic lost in the consolation round. Castillo Gargallo fell to UAB's Jana Hecking 6-1, 6-2, while Dancetovic lost to Alabama's Anna Selim 6-1, 6-1.

Day four of the tournament begins Sunday morning.
