LORMAN, Mississippi – The Northwestern State volleyball team begins a stretch of four matches in four days with a midweek trip to face Alcorn State on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
This past weekend, the Lady Demons traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, to partake in the NIKE Invitational against high level-competitors in Colorado, Oklahoma and Seton Hall. NSU dropped the three matches, but showed improvement over the opening weekend a year ago.
In 2016, NSU opened the season with a tournament at TCU, in which the Lady Demons suffered three 3-0 sweeps to North Carolina State, Arkansas State and Boise State.
"I was pleased with last year and I'm even more pleased and happy about this weekend," third-year head coach
Sean Kiracofe said. "We really competed well with some tough teams. We had positions and individuals that really produced great numbers.
"The goal is to be able to take that and carry it over into next weekend and be able to continue to play at that high level."
Alcorn (0-4) faced Southland Conference member New Orleans in each team's season opener. The Privateers took the match 3-0.
Outside hitter
Reagan Rogers had a strong showing in Oklahoma, picking up 32 kills and five aces en route to all-tournament team honors.
"To go out against the competition that we had this last weekend and to really produce at a high level and a consistent level was great to see from her," Kiracofe said.
The Lady Demons will have a day off on Thursday before returning to action at the Troy Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
