HOUSTON – Northwestern State seniors
J.D. Almond and
Dannie Harmon will be in the spotlight Thursday at the annual Southland Conference Football Media Day showcasing the league's 11 teams.
Almond, the returning starter at quarterback, and Harmon, a veteran defensive end, will field questions from media Thursday morning along with Demons' fifth-year head coach
Jay Thomas.
The NSU trio will be featured in ESPN3 live programming from 10:30-10:55.
The ESPN3 morning programming airs from 9 a.m. – noon, with afternoon interviews running from approximately 1:15-4:10.
Almond (6-0, 208), a Haughton product, has six starts in the past two seasons, including the last three games in 2016. He has completed 56 percent of his passes for 970 yards and five touchdowns.
Harmon (6-1, 272), a native of Rayne, has 10 career starts in his three seasons at defensive end. He had a career-best six tackles last season against Incarnate Word.
The team reports for the start of preseason camp on Sunday, July 30. The first game is Saturday, Sept. 2 at Louisiana Tech, followed a week later by a visit to Grambling, then two home games, Sept. 16 in the Southland opener against Lamar and Sept. 30 when old rival Southeastern Louisiana visits for another Southland contest.
