NATCHITOCHES –
David Fry's standout junior season added another honor Wednesday afternoon.
Fry became the second Northwestern State baseball players in as many seasons to earn a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South Central Region team, being named the first-team first baseman, according to the ABCA.
Fry turned in one of the best all-around offensive seasons in recent Demons history, hitting .340 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs. He became the first Demon to reach 20 doubles and 10 home runs in the same season.
He follows right-handed pitcher
Adam Oller, who was a first-team All-South Central Region and third-team ABCA All-American in 2016.
"What a great honor for Dave to be recognized for this all-region team," first-year head coach
Bobby Barbier said. "I am very proud of the work he has put in throughout his career that makes him very deserving of this honor."
Fry, a second-team All-Southland Conference selection, is one of four SLC players on the first team, joining Southeastern Louisiana second baseman Carson Crites, Stephen F. Austin designated hitter Josh Evans and Sam Houston State pitcher Heath Donica.
The ABCA South-Central Region includes teams from the Southland, Sun Belt, Southwestern Athletic and American conferences. Each of the 14 first-team members advance to the All-American ballot, which will be voted on during the College World Series.
Fry led the Demons in batting average, doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases (120) and slugging percentage (.591). Fry's 10 home runs made him the first Demon to reach double-figure home runs in the BBCOR era and produced the first double-figure homer season by an NSU player since 2008.
His 21 doubles are tied for second in NSU single-season history while his slugging percentage was the eighth-best in school single-season history while his total bases were tied for the 10
th most by a Demon in a single season.
Through three seasons, Fry ranks fourth on NSU's career doubles list (48) and eight in career total bases (283) and is tied for seventh in career hit by pitches (29). He needs one home run to move into a tie for 10
th place in career history and is two RBIs away from 10
th place in school history.
