Game Recap: Lady Demon Volleyball | | Drew Bartlett - Graduate Assistant

Despite loss to HBU, Kiracofe happy with team's improvement

HOUSTON, Texas – The Northwestern State volleyball team was unable to reverse the script in the team's second meeting with Houston Baptist on Saturday, dropping a lengthy four-set match 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23).

The Lady Demons (13-16, 8-6) have now dropped three-straight matches beginning with a 3-1 loss at home to Abilene Christian followed by a five set loss to Central Arkansas.

Houston Baptist (18-9,9-5) has now gotten the best of NSU twice this season. The Huskies previously snapped the Lady Demons' four-match winning streak in Natchitoches on Oct. 17.

Despite loss, third-year head coach Sean Kiracofe is happy with his team's performance. Multiple Lady Demons were involved early and often in blocking and attacking.

"We had moments where we controlled the match and then segments where we made some bad choices. As long as we clean those few moments up going into the conference tournament we'll be ok."

Outside hitter Reagan Rogers once again led all players with 18 kills, with freshman Hannah Brister contributed 14 kills from the right side. Rogers also co-led the match with 15 digs to mark her 11th double-double of the season.

Rogers' 15 digs tied libero Channing Burleson, while defensive specialist Kylie Spencer and setter Kathryn Wristen added 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Brister continued her trend of efficient hitting, posting a .313 hitting percentage on 32 attempts. Her .218 hitting percentage ranks best on the team among non-middle blockers.

Middle blockers Brooke Wood and Madeline Drake impressed Kiracofe with their performances on the front line. The pair led the way for NSU's best blocking match of the season. With contributions from six players, the Lady Demons finished with 12 total blocks and no blocking errors.

Wood earned her second start of the season, tying Drake and Brister with a match-high five blocks, while adding four kills.

"We had great performances from both Hannah (Brister) and Brooke (Wood), and that's really what mattered to me today," Kiracofe said. "Drake played well in the M1 also, so to see individuals step up and take on responsibility was a win for me."

The Lady Demons return for their home finale next week. They will face Nicholls on Thursday and McNeese on Saturday. NSU faced both on the road earlier this season, winning both.
